A shake-up is always on the horizon for interior designers, and Suzy Hoodless is no stranger to reworking her own Victorian home in West London. In a recent refresh of her open-plan kitchen, Suzy chose pared-back, Scandi furniture and a fresh colour, replacing cobalt blue cabinetry with a deep plum hue to reflect her ever-evolving tastes and a new era with her now teenage children.
Dark yet friendly in feel, the rich plum mirrors the Nero Parquet limestone floor from
Lapicida – a dramatic feature serving as a physical and metaphorical anchor, unwavering through the room’s design evolution. Described by Suzy as ‘bulletproof’, the floor is the perfect choice for a hardworking room such as the kitchen; genuine limestone is suitable for use with underfloor heating, cooling underfoot in the warmer months, and strong enough to endure family life.
From a design perspective, the limestone serves as a dark neutral, laying the groundwork for displaying pops of colour, such as the bright red J39 Mogensen chairs and a vintage, multicoloured floor lamp. Hand-polished and sealed, the tiles have a smooth, ever-so-shiny finish, veering away from a rustic look to something much more contemporary. Suzy’s home proves limestone is a timeless, enduring surface, evolving alongside changing design choices and stages of life.
