Soie de Lune: Weaving Stronger Community in Every Thread

London-based company Soie de Lune is redefining luxury interiors through its unique fabrics. Meticulously handwoven using time-honoured techniques by talented artisans in its own weaving workshop in Laos, Soie de Lune’s designs feature stylish colour combinations and intricate geometric brocades unique to the region of Southeast Asia. Each fabric tells a story, rooted in the rich cultural history and traditions of Laos, which are beautifully interpreted in versatile colourways for contemporary interiors.

Soie de lune was established by Daniel Marcus in 2004, who dreamed of creating a people-centred company based on sustainable business practices. With an aim to preserve the traditional weaving techniques that are entirely unique to Laos, and a skill that was in rapid decline, Daniel and his business partner Pai opened a weaving workshop in Vientiane, helping the design community to thrive whilst conserving and showcasing the breathtaking beauty of Lao handwoven fabrics. Young artisans are mentored there, supported in mastering traditional techniques, learning new skills and carrying this rare craft forward for the generations to come.

All of Soie de Lune’s fabrics are made in the traditional method on manual wooden looms from 100% natural fibres, such as cotton and silk, which are luxurious in feel and sustainable by nature. Whilst many of the fabrics feature intricate designs and beautiful brocades, they are suitable for use as drapery and upholstery, bringing a luxurious and timeless look to interiors.

Soie de Lune proves that true luxury takes time, and meticulously crafted artisanal fabrics cannot be mass-produced. Every thread tells a story through the precious skill of handweaving; this is the true definition of luxury.
