Introducing Silk Wall-Coverings by Antonia Claudie | George Spencer Designs

10 Jun 24

The latest brand to join the George Spencer Designs showroom is Antonia Claudie, an emerging sustainable fabric designer.

After relocating from Copenhagen to London, Antonia attended Central Saint Martins to study Textile Design. Learning firsthand of the negative environmental impact of synthetic dyes, Antonia set out to produce sustainable fabrics and, after much experimentation, developed her own 100% natural dyes.  Not only does Antonia Claudie pioneer sustainable design, but her beautiful and unique fabrics bring stylish elegance and sophistication to interiors.

The wall-art, made from luxurious 100% organic peace silk, is dyed by hand in the London workshop by Antonia. Food waste - such as coffee grounds, walnut shells and avocado pits - are repurposed to create the dyes, producing a variety of delicate colourways. The natural, plant-based dyes contain no harmful chemicals and can be disposed of without causing harm to people or the planet. The fabrics are then exposed to rust for varying lengths of time, creating striking and unique organic patterns with a sumptuous quality. The rusting process allows pattern variations to occur, ensuring each roll is original and unique.

The wall-art fabrics are available in Dupion, Organza and Satin for a variety of beautiful finishes, from an understated matte effect to an opulent sheen, and are applied to non-woven paper for easy application. The collection is available in 14 colourways. Price £456 per metre (minimum order 5 metres).
