Creating a family home without owners is no easy feat. It requires envisioning who will occupy it in the future and ensuring the design will cater to many tastes yet still have character and soul. Pam Baker, Senior Designer at Martin Moore, was chosen to take on the challenge of designing an open-plan kitchen for the developers of a luxurious 6 bedroom newbuild. Designed to grow with the family who will occupy the house, the spacious kitchen forms the central hub of the home and is cleverly designed to consider all possible needs and requirements through every stage of family life.

As the developers specialise in creating luxury homes, incorporating the finest materials was a priority and every detail was carefully considered to create a space of the highest standard. Martin Moore was the perfect choice for the project; the bespoke kitchens are handmade in Yorkshire by skilled cabinetmakers and are built to last a lifetime. The New Deco kitchen was specified as its sleek and architectural look, teamed with glossy marble and burnished brass handles, complements the high ceiling and stylish essence of the house. The cabinetry is hand painted in a neutral 'Grey Moonstone', ensuring the room remains bright, light and spacious.

The kitchen is centred around a generous L-shaped island with a built-in bench that creates a striking banquette area. The seating is upholstered in a luxurious forest green, adding a rich pop of colour whilst reflecting the greenery from the landscaped garden seen through the French doors beyond. This ingenious design not only draws the eye and creates a focal point, but it allows the cook to socialise with family and guests without them being underfoot. A glamorous chandelier hangs overhead and draws attention to the banquette area.
Clever zoning was an important element for Pam and ensures this kitchen is a pleasure to use. The cooker is placed centrally beneath a classic mantel, with a capacious larder located to the left and the sink situated opposite. Everything is close at hand for the cook, and the design ensures that everything from prepping, cooking and washing up is as convenient as possible.

Located in a room leading off of the kitchen, a generous utility contains the laundry appliances and equipment to tackle the everyday tasks of family life. In addition to ample storage to keep the kitchen uncluttered, the utility also features a long worktop with a large butler sink so that dirty dishes can be stored out of sight when entertaining. It is a highly functional space but remains a beautiful and luxurious one, echoing the design of the kitchen with the same neutral colour scheme and warm parquet wood flooring.
