Country Classic Kitchen

When buying this Wiltshire new-build, the client’s first stipulation was that the kitchen specification had to be a Martin Moore.  Moving away from the original plan of an ultra-modern steel kitchen, they chose Martin Moore for their classic English style, strong attention to detail and completely bespoke design.  In keeping with the building’s neo-classical style, they opted for furniture inspired by the New Classic collection.

Martin Moore designer Pam Baker was involved right from the start, when the foundations went in.  The clients had moved to gain more space for themselves, two growing boys and a bouncy spaniel.  The brief was to create a well organised, multi-purpose living space that catered to all the family’s needs.

The space was opened up to create an expansive kitchen/dining/living area.  At its heart is the central island, providing worksurface, prepping space and an informal eating zone.  Fitted cabinetry is featured throughout, including in the TV/sitting room.  The chosen palette of rich, dark colours underlines the neo-classical inspiration of the house, whilst the antique mirror splashback and pale flagstone floor help brighten up the space and establishes a coherent feel.

High ceilings and large windows ensure that the kitchen is flooded with natural light, and uninterrupted sightlines guarantee sensational views of Salisbury Plain from anywhere in the kitchen.

‘Must Haves’ included two integrated ovens, plenty of fridge/freezer space, a large sink area, even if that meant having less cupboards, and a large double pantry cupboard, lined with wooden shelves and racks for packets, boxes, jars and cooking ingredients of all sorts

All Martin Moore kitchens are custom designed and built to order in their Yorkshire workshops.  This means that the furniture can be purpose-designed inside and out, and that every inch of space can be used effectively.  Ergonomics and clever zoning matter just as much in a large kitchen as in small spaces.

In order to maintain the uncluttered, super organised feel, a utility/boot room was installed, where wet boots, coats and muddy dogs can be sorted out.  The space also has a unique ‘drying cupboard’ built into the client’s specification; a tall cupboard fitted with wooden racks and vented at the top, allowing warmth from the underfloor heating to dry the washing.  Dedicated boot storage was built-in under the stairs.

The final ‘must have’ for the couple: a bar, beautifully kitted out with a fridge, sink and glass shelves for drinks and glassware, cleverly concealed behind tall cupboards.
