The Influencer's Kitchen - Martin Moore

Located in private parkland, this Georgian property is home to influencer Fleur Bell (@fleurdeforce), her husband Mike and their young daughter, River. Featuring outdated furniture, the previous kitchen failed to take advantage of the generous size of the room and was in need of an upgrade. 

Fleur wanted a kitchen that would respect the scale and heritage of the house, whilst simultaneously offering all the practicalities and ease of a modern kitchen. Martin Moore’s New Classic collection was the perfect choice; a contemporary interpretation of a classic design, the collection offers grand freestanding pieces and generously sized workspaces, ideal for today’s open plan living. Both Fleur and Mike are keen cooks, so it was essential to incorporate large scale appliances into the design. 

The Wolf range cooker was to be the focus of the kitchen and so Martin Moore framed it in a chimney breast-style surround with a mantle in the same shade as the rest of the cabinetry. The cooking zone is flanked on either side by two spacious storage cupboards, one housing dry goods and old-style measuring scales and the other storing small appliances. 

Further storage space is provided by the freestanding breakfast cupboard.  Positioned next to the dining table it means breakfast making facilities are close at hand yet can be stored away out of sight when not in use.  

Sited near both the cooker and the central island, two large Sub-Zero refrigerators were incorporated into studwork and an architrave was built around them. The aim was to soften the impact of the stainless-steel appliances, helping to gracefully integrate them with the hand painted furniture.

Capable of seating up to four comfortably, the large central island sits at the heart of the kitchen.  It needed to be large enough to accommodate a social zone, as well as a prep area. A breakfast bar was included in the design, giving the family an informal space where they can gather and eat together.

Initially Fleur wanted to attach a dining table onto the design, however this interrupted the flow of the room and so it was decided that the scheme would incorporate a separate island and table. This creates a clear distinction between the work and social zones of the kitchen, with the dining table acting as a more formal space for gathering.  

In terms of the overall feel of the kitchen, Fleur wanted to achieve contrast, namely by blending traditional cabinetry with a dark, bold colour scheme. The size of the room meant that darker paint shades could be used to dramatic effect whilst the light coloured worktops and pervading natural light help to lift the whole scheme. 

Alongside the main kitchen, Martin Moore were also asked to design a luxurious walk-in pantry. The same cabinetry, colour scheme and flooring were used in both spaces, helping to maintain visual unity across the rooms. Open fronted recessed shelves provide storage for oils, condiments and dry ingredients and tall floor-to-ceiling cupboards (opposite) store larger household items.
