A Vision in Pink

The owners of this 5-bed property had a clear vision of creating a vibrant yet functional kitchen. Having lived with a tired cherry wood kitchen fitted by the previous owners in the 1990s, they needed a space fit for modern family life as well as being perfectly suited to their individual style. The project was led by Pam Baker, designer at Martin Moore, who worked closely with the owners to bring their vision to fruition.

It was Pam who suggested repositioning the window to the end of the kitchen run to allow for an expanded cooking area and a more central position for a range cooker; this also offered a spectacular view of the newly landscaped garden whilst standing at the farmhouse sink. The uniform, rectangular room was perfectly suited to a symmetrical kitchen design with a central island overlooking the cooking area, delivering a social and welcoming space that allows family and guests to relax on the bar stools and socialise with the cook.

In this kitchen, it’s the colours that take centre stage. The owners opted for shades of pink, with Pam selecting Martin Moore’s delicate colour ‘Pale Peony’ for the cabinetry and the bolder ‘Raspberry’ for the island. The kitchen island creates a striking focal point, further embellished by flamboyant and playful Curiousa Pear Drop pendant lights and four Martin Moore bar stools upholstered in an exquisite, patterned fabric from Designers Guild.  A creamy quartz is used for the island worktop to complement the dusky pink cabinetry, whilst the main worktops are a veined polished granite, echoing the antiqued mirror splashback and working harmoniously with the warm neutrals of the limestone floor.

As a keen cook, a Wolf range cooker was a must for the client, and the bright red knobs on the cooker tone excellently with the hues of pink throughout the kitchen. A variety of storage solutions were required to accommodate extensive collections of glassware; a reduced-depth display cabinet was designed to offer a large volume of storage to beautifully display the pieces without obstructing movement around the island. A walk-in pantry and a breakfast cupboard were also added to the kitchen design, keeping unsightly appliances, utensils and food neatly tucked away.
