Martin Moore x Henry Prideaux : The WOW!house Kitchen

08 Jun 23

Showcasing classic-contemporary furniture, embellished with sumptuous materials, furnishings and finishes, Martin Moore and Henry Prideaux’s WOW!house kitchen brings art deco-inspired glamour to one of the most personal and practical spaces in the home.

Known for designing and building beautiful, bespoke kitchens and handcrafted pieces of furniture, WOW!house offered Martin Moore a limitless design canvas to work with, allowing them to showcase the best of their exceptional craftmanship and incorporate playful features and quirky on-trend elements. Specialists in designing family kitchens on a large-scale, their WOW!house scheme is a theatrical take on the ‘Entertainers Kitchen’, imagined for a family who love to socialise and mingle in the kitchen.

Martin Moore prioritise collaborating with like-minded makers and designers who share their design ethos. Recognised for creating contemporary, sophisticated spaces that are a joy to live in, interior designer Henry Prideaux was the obvious person to approach when it came to designing the WOW! kitchen. Working with Design Director, Richard Moore, the two have created a space that pays tribute to British craftmanship and design.

The New Deco collection formed the starting point; inspired by the architects and craftsmen of the 1930s, and pulling on Art Deco style and aesthetics, it offers complete design flexibility, incorporating a wide variety of feature materials, from veneers and metallics to ceramics and porcelains. Employing his eclectic eye, Henry worked closely with Martin Moore to create a multi-layered, elegant scheme, elevating the traditional kitchen concept into a fun, yet functional entertainment space.

The two-tone kitchen is hand painted in a playful palette of pinks: ‘Oyster Pink’ and Mulberry’. A beautifully veined semi-precious quartzite used for the island worktop brings soft green and blue accents to the scheme, whilst a classic composite quartz top decorates the sink and cooking runs. The room is wrapped in a gleaming white gold textured wallpaper and the ceiling is decorated with gold leaf, creating a sense of decadence.

Every detail of this kitchen has been meticulously planned - beautiful fabrics and passementerie from Pierre Frey, Samuel and Sons and Dedar add texture to the space, layering velvets, silks and trims in colourways chosen to complement those found in the island quartzite. Exquisite curtains in pink velvet have been beautifully embellished with embroidered tape and brush fringe adding drama and opulence as you enter and exit the space. The roman blind and barstools introduce a touch of green into the scheme, and a glistening glitter ball creates a party vibe.

Three vintage-inspired pendant chandeliers from Pure White Lines frame the island, bringing deco-style grandeur to the design. Like in any good kitchen, there are several light sources allowing you to set various moods and ambiences throughout the day; alabaster and brass sconces and a table lamp from Visual Comfort add variety to the lighting scheme.

This is a modern, functional entertaining space, complete with a glass fronted walk-in wine room and walk-in pantry.

Providing a visual link with the main kitchen, the ceilings of both are lined with gold wallpaper, adorned with shimmering sequins. The wine room is illuminated by beautiful backlit faux-marble onyx. A bespoke desk with New Deco metal legs is sited in front of the faux window, incorporating yet another ‘zone’ into this multi-functional space.

On the kitchen, Henry says, “Anyone who appreciates luxury, elegance and quality craftmanship, with a sense of frivolity and a love of entertaining, will love this kitchen. I was thrilled to be asked by Martin Moore to collaborate with them at WOW!house 2023.”

“Designing the kitchen for WOW!house was a really enjoyable, creative experience. We’ve taken a fun, maximalist approach to the design combining our classic, handcrafted furniture with statement materials and luxurious, glamorous finishes” says Richard.
