New Deco Opulence

Forming the heart of a magnificent Surrey mansion, every element of this spectacular Martin Moore kitchen is entirely bespoke, from the custom made cabinetry to the uniquely sourced materials and finishes.

Involved from the very beginning of the project, Martin Moore worked closely with the owners to create a truly luxurious, statement kitchen that sits in complete harmony with the grand proportions of the room. One of the largest they have ever designed, the impressive, curved island spans the entire width of the room; highly functional it incorporates generous storage and prep space, as well as banquette seating, forming the social hub of the space.

The New Deco collection was the perfect starting point to achieve this decoratively distinct design; inspired by the architects and craftsmen of the 1920s and with a strong Art Deco feel, the collection is designed to include a wide variety of feature materials, from veneers and metallics to ceramics and porcelains. Opulent materials and finishes - a staple of the New Deco design - are what ultimately sets this kitchen apart. The elegant, clean-lined cabinetry features a chamfered detail to lend a contemporary feel to traditional mouldings, whilst pale grey leathered faux snakeskin, dramatically dark marble-effect porcelain and bold brass inlays help define cupboard doors, cabinet panels and Martin Moore’s signature chimney mantel.

Bespoke furniture painted in Pale Platinum is teamed with satin brass handles, as well as brass taps and fittings, adding warmth to the space. Monochromatic mosaic tiles add decorative flair to the splashback area whilst strikingly veined Cosmic Black granite distinguishes the raised level breakfast bar from the main island. A co-ordinated quartet of assorted pendant lights placed above the island illuminate all areas within the kitchen, helping to complete this statement look.

The owners have a love of cooking and entertaining, and wanted a kitchen that had a natural flow and ease to it. Zoning is crucial to the scheme’s success; the banquette dining area keeps family, friends, and guests within a close social distance but not underfoot for whoever is cooking. An elevated round breakfast bar is sited directly next to the capacious breakfast cupboard, keeping necessary appliances such as the coffee machine, microwave and toaster close to hand in the morning. The sink run is a mere turnaround from the cooking zone, preventing clutter from mounting on the island and two beautiful glass fronted dressers stand at either end of the kitchen, providing handy storage for table and glassware.
