A Georgian Hunting Lodge Reimagined

Set within expansive picturesque parkland in the Golden Valley in Herefordshire, this beautiful Georgian hunting lodge was reimagined and given a glamorous new look by interior designer Francis Sultana. Redesigned to better reflect the busy, social lifestyle of the owners, the décor throughout is eclectic and sophisticated, perfectly suited to the style and heritage of the house.

Martin Moore was involved from very early on in the project, having been commissioned to design and build a light, bright kitchen/dining space, perfect for entertaining on a large scale. Kitchen designer David Sant had worked with the owners on the renovation of their London kitchen, and they turned to him once again to apply his eye to their country home. Previously a reception/living area, the large room offered great potential for a sociable, stylish and practical kitchen. However, limited wall space, numerous columns and architectural quirks made clever planning essential.

Using the only uninterrupted wall space available, Martin Moore incorporated an L-shaped run of tall cupboards and cabinets to accommodate a large fridge freezer with integrated wine fridge, built-in wall ovens as well as a small sink run and base storage. To create a sense of symmetry and balance, Martin Moore installed a scalloped book matched marble splashback to form a dramatic focal point behind the sink. Sited within the return of the L-shape, a central island provides a break between the kitchen area and the dining zone, and features a hob, built-in oven, warming drawers as well as pop-up extraction.

The overall palette was kept deliberately calm and neutral so that individual, ornamental pieces could really shine. Where they had opted for a contemporary style in their London apartment, the owners decided on a more traditional aesthetic for their country home. Martin Moore’s New Classic furniture was the perfect choice. Directly opposite the kitchen, a beautiful dining area, complete with a spectacularly veined blue and white marble table, adds a sense of opulence and glamour to the scheme. Martin Moore designed a purpose-built capacious breakfast cupboard - one of the largest they have ever designed - to keep breakfast necessities close at hand and to display decorative china and glassware.

Very much a space for entertaining and socialising, the owners are thrilled with the new kitchen; they love the quality and style of Martin Moore’s furniture, and the ease with which they can use the space. It’s a practical, ergonomic kitchen with added style and sophistication.
