Dating back to the 17th century and once home to former Prime Minister Anthony Eden, Binderton House in Chichester has a long, distinguished, very English history. Now separated into different quarters, the ground floor apartment has been lovingly revamped by new owners, interior designer, Martin Brudnizki and his partner Jonathan Brook.
Very much in keeping with Martin Brudnizki’s signature style, the space is a feast for the eyes, featuring billowing fabrics, ruffled lampshades, lavish materials and an abundance of ornamentation. Despite wishing to stay true to the property’s heritage, Martin was keen to diversify from a completely traditional English aesthetic: “This is a fantasy of English arcadian life by a Swede who didn’t grow up in houses like this.”
This embellished, fantastical take on English country style is nowhere better represented than in the apartment’s master bathroom. Featuring a classical-style marble chequered floor, marble-adorned walls and sumptuous fabrics and finishes, the space is a masterclass in maximalist design. Statement pieces from Drummonds emphasise the bathroom’s luxurious feel and bring a timeless elegance to the scheme.
Featuring a studded skirt and handpainted in candy pink, the Avon bath - one of Drummonds’ most compact designs - fits perfectly within the recessed alcove found behind the shower. Designed by Martin Brudnizki for Drummonds, the Double Lowther vanity with an Arabescato marble top and brass echoes the marble elements used elsewhere in the bathroom.
Providing a glamorous finishing touch, Martin and Jonathan opted for the Leawood tap and shower collection for the basin and bath mixers. Part of the Martin Brudnizki for Drummonds collection, the taps have a strong, simple aesthetic with hallmark flattened ends.
