Perfectly Proportioned

This traditional conservatory was designed, handmade and installed by The Caulfield Company. Built in their Yorkshire workshops in solid Sapele hardwood with maintenance free cappings, it is painted in a soft white finish which perfectly suits the well-established garden.

Situated within the City of York, the location is a fine, detached Victorian villa. Mark Caulfield designed this bespoke conservatory to integrate seamlessly with the house, with proportions and architectural details such as the roof pitch, reclaimed brick plinth and arch-topped windows perfectly matched to the original building.

One wall of the conservatory is built in the same reclaimed brick, giving privacy and creating a boundary with the house next door. The brick is left raw on the inside, used as a decorative finish. The roof elevation on that side is also solid, enhancing privacy and helping maintain the interior climate in this traditional structure. All of the glass is double glazed for comfort, security and noise control.

The glazed elevations have traditional top hung sashes, echoing the style of a Victorian greenhouse. This theme is repeated in the manually operated roof vents - again a typical feature of 19th Century plant houses. The solid English oak floor and window box seating (which conceals radiators) were also made by The Caulfield Company.

Highly experienced in sensitive architectural responses to period and listed buildings, The Caulfield Company handles projects right through from planning permission to the design, build and interior finishes.  It also offers a complete interior design service.
