Glamour Kitchen ...

10 Apr 19

This custom-built Modulnova kitchen by DesignSpace London was designed for a luxury development by Clivedale in Marylebone, London W1.  The brief to the designer, Richard Atkins, was to make the kitchen a stylish and dramatic backdrop within the large open plan space.  Appliances had to be concealed and materials co-ordinated with the wall and floor finishes.  Overall, the whole space had to be supremely glamorous.

When not in use, the kitchen is a discreet space with pocket doors concealing ovens and fridges.  The powerful gas burner hob is set flush into the worktop and the extractor hood is disguised amongst the overhead cabinets.  Custom-stained dark oak cabinetry and white Corian (worktops and island sides) give a crisp contrast, softened by the luxury of the Carrara marble backsplash and a matching panel on the island, facing into the room.

The final magic ingredient in this kitchen is light - which Richard has skilfully used to bring colours and textures to life, to create task lighting where needed and allow the mood to be changed at will.  Most impressively, the two Carrara marble panels can be down-washed with soft LED light, creating an impressive design focus and subtle room divider.  Concealing all the light sources within the kitchen also allows the pendant fittings over the dining table to take centre stage when needed.

Perfect for open plan living, this kitchen is both a high-performance space and a design feature in its own right.
