This 16th Century Catalan farmhouse near Barcelona has been restored using original materials with carefully curated additions. The works have transformed the building into a comfortable family home, bringing it right into the modern day without in any way compromising its spaces or unique character.
The interior designer for the project, Ana Engelhorn, specified Drummonds products in the two main bathrooms. Drummonds make all their bathroomware using traditional manufacturing methods and elemental materials; from cast iron and enamel to china clay and brass. These connect powerfully with the Farmhouse’s simple beauty.
Shown here is the Master Bathroom which features a Spey freestanding bath with impressive freestanding Mull taps. The bathroom is open plan to the bedroom beyond, but a wooden room divider gives some privacy as well as creating space for the enormous 6 bar floor- mounted heated towel rail.
In the same spirit of marrying antique charm with modern luxury, Drummonds’ Double Lowther vanity basin, with its hand-carved Arabescato marble top, brings period grandeur to the room. Like the bath, this is an extra-large, super-impressive piece, shown to its best advantage in spacious surroundings.
From the taps to the vanity stand and towel rail, the traditionally made brassware is finished in chrome. A counterpart to the polished metal exterior of the Spey bath and in classic contrast to the gleaming white china basins and crisply enamelled bath, it also picks up on the natural daylight which floods the room, giving a subtle gleam.
Luxurious yet quirky and rustic, this Spanish farmhouse is an unusual setting for Drummonds’ classic English bathroomware, but the sheer scale and authenticity of the products makes them a perfect match to this exceptional building.
