Richard Allan London Launch Limited Edition Prints

04 Oct 18

Richard Allan was a major name in the explosion of pattern and colour which defined the art and fashion of London in the 1960s. Worn by countless celebrities, his printed silk scarves were iconic pieces of art, still highly collectable today.

Working with major couture houses and selling through luxury stores all over the world, his star remained in the ascendant until 1982, when he sold the business, including his complete design archive.

Richard’s daughter Cate, also a designer, worked with him in the business until his retirement and then followed her own career.  In 2014, she began tracking down her father’s designs; recreating his archive, scarf by scarf.  She also began reworking the colours, melding his work with hers to give a fresh, contemporary feel. Now, she has relaunched the business as Richard Allan London, offering both new scarves and a brilliant collection of framed Limited Edition art prints.

New: Six Limited Edition Art Prints
Each in three colourways

The collection offers six Richard Allan original archive designs from the 1960s and 70s, each available in three of Cate Allan’s new colourways. Hand printed on museum grade paper in Limited Editions of 100, each print is embossed with the Richard Allan London seal, and produced in the UK.

Measuring 79cm x 81cm, they come framed in black, white, gilt or silver frames. Unframed prints are also available.

Bespoke colourways, sizes and special frames are available to order.

Elegance:  Inspired by the ribbons falling from ballet shoes and the ethereal nature of dance, this abstract design by Richard Allan combines a sense of choreography with a strong graphic presence.

Aster:  One of Richard Allan’s highly illustrative designs, this modern floral combines an Aster and an Iris in a single flowing pattern.

Zen:  Channelling some of the interest in orientalism of the 1960s, this Richard Allan design picks up the theme of willows and water as a symbol of calm, renewal and continuity.

Elsa:  A joyful tribute to the couturier Elsa Schiaparelli, with whom Richard Allan collaborated.  Her signature colour of shocking pink and her ‘dare to be bold’ attitude shines through in this design.

Dotty:  Vintage pop art by Richard Allan is given a bright new look, highlighting both its visual trickery and its decorative possibilities.

Hepworth:  A tribute to the sculptor Barbara Hepworth, the lines and space are ordered harmoniously, flowing in sculptural forms and underlining the remarkable diversity of the Richard Allan designs.
