The extension has a stark ‘Huf House’ style and the original kitchen had a similarly clinical feel.  As soon as they bought the house, the clients were clear that they wanted a new, cosier kitchen for their young family.  Although they had briefly considered another hyper-modern kitchen, they were quickly converted to the contemporary classic look of
Martin Moore’s handmade furniture. This was the perfect way to reconnect the space to the Victorian origins of the house.

This was never going to be a straightforward project. The height and scale of the furniture and appliances had to be carefully considered as there were several different ceiling heights. The design also had to work around an imposing structural steel column.

Because Martin Moore kitchens are entirely designed and made to order, there are no standard components. Toni Silver, a Senior Designer at Martin Moore, had free rein to create the clients’ perfect family kitchen within this challenging space.

The cabinetry, from Martin Moore’s
English collection, was deliberately kept quiet and restrained, echoing the period origins of the house and leaving room for vibrant, contemporary colours and patterns to take centre stage. The height and scale of the individually designed wall cabinets, mantel and larder units help redress the variation in ceiling heights. At the heart of the kitchen, the island is raised on legs to give a traditional, freestanding look.

Another of Toni Silver’s clever design solutions was to absorb the problematic structural steel column into a neat desk area. This gives it real purpose, and allows the rest of the kitchen to flow naturally around the window, island and cooking zone.

This is a very urban kitchen; clean-cut, highly functional but warm and bright with colour and rich in pattern and texture. The inky indigo paint chosen for the central island led to the clients choosing a palette of decorative blues, including the iridescent splashback tiles and on-trend geometric floor.

Wetrooms are notoriously tricky to get right. It’s crucial to achieve a totally waterproof build, to prevent leaks, with exactly the right slope on the floor to ensure drainage. Now, Unislope Wet Room Kits from
Alternative Bathrooms offer the easiest and most effective way to create beautiful showers from the floor up.

A Scandinavian concept, Unislope’s one-piece floor slopes come in a range of widths and thicknesses, for trimming to size on site. This base is then sealed with the supplied membrane, creating a seamless, waterproof floor ready for stone or tiling. The final element is a collection of sleek, architectural drains, with an emphasis on discreet designs sited against the wall or in corners.  Unislope Wetroom kits are perfectly in tune with the modern wetroom aesthetic and ensure an equally high performance.  All elements are also available separately and contemporary shower accessories including metal shelves and towel bars complete the look.

Towering glazed gables make an impressive statement but they can be hard to screen as seen here in this modern property.  The owners wanted to make the most of open countryside views but equally had a requirement for privacy at night, so Grand Design Blinds designed, tailor-made and installed blinds which give a wide range of full and partial screening options.  There are two electrically-controlled blinds fitted into the apex and three manual blinds mounted discreetly on the transom. This  gives a wide range of full and partial screening options for both privacy and climate control.  The fabric matches across both sets of blinds, giving a smart finish.

Grand Design Blinds can be used in conjunction with automated home systems.  They can also be installed with an operating system that allows them to be controlled from a phone app or tablet.

Grand Design Blinds undertake projects worldwide.
All of their blinds are handmade to order in the UK.

Famous for its antique stone floors, which are reclaimed from historic buildings all over Europe, Lapicida has been working with a leading porcelain manufacturer to develop a perfect look-alike.

Villasse, the new collection has the authentic look and feel of an ancient limestone.  Designed to be used either on their own, or in conjunction with antique flooring, Villasse tiles offer the advantage of being very much lighter and, with a depth of just 10mm, far thinner than reclaimed stone.  Easy to install, they are non-porous and maintenance-free.

Perfect for floors and walls, Villasse is also frost-resistant.  This makes it ideal for getting the indoor/outdoor look of a single surface flowing from the house straight into the garden.

Villasse comes in four natural colourways, a cool grey ‘Ash’, the warmer-tones of ‘Sand’ and ‘Mocha’, and the soft-cream ‘White’.  All four colourways are available in three different tile sizes which can be used separately or combined in the random mix of sizes which is typical of genuinely old stone floors.

The new ‘Tweed’ from Drummonds is a compact freestanding roll top, based on an 18th century bateau bath.  Measuring just 1520mm long and 522mm high, the Tweed is Drummonds’ smallest bath, perfect for smaller spaces but still offering all the comforts of a classic double ended design.

It takes Drummonds several weeks to make a single bath; a traditional process involving casting the raw metal, shot-blasting and enamelling with the lengthy dry-frit process which gives a snow white, incredibly durable enamel surface.

As with all Drummonds’ cast irons baths,
the Tweed is made to order, with four bespoke finish options; polished, painted, primed or raw metal.  Shown here hand-painted, it is also available to order in a footed version.

Pioneers of boutique brassware, The Watermark Collection’s statement designs for bathrooms and kitchens are handmade in Brooklyn, New York.  Combining their authentic industrial heritage with modern chic, the products emphasise honesty of materials, tactility and individuality.

Always exploring metal craft and technology, The Watermark Collection is now launching eight new hand finishes, bringing the total collection up to twenty-four.  Each of them is an individual feat of craftsmanship - and often a little chemistry too….

Brass has become a keynote in today’s bathrooms, effortlessly bridging the gap between heritage and modern style.  Four of the eight finishes offer new options for brass, from Tarnished, created with unique ageing techniques, to Heritage, a lacquered antique look, and Natural - a ‘live’ polished finish which will naturally patinate with use.

Rustica Brass brings an intriguingly velvety darkness to the collection, a theme which is amplified in Matt Black and the super-glossy Black Mirror.

Aged Nickel introduces a smooth, satin finish to this much loved warm metal, whilst Green Patina uses 3 layers of hand-sponged oxidizing agents to build up its distinctive, weathered copper finish.
