BRILLIANT BRIGHTS
DECEMBER 14TH 2015

The right rug makes all the difference in a room and choosing a bold, bright rug is the perfect way to introduce colour. Felt’s colourful Shyrdak rugs work brilliantly as statement pieces, bringing warmth and interest to a scheme. Made from thick, felted wool, they are also luxuriously comfortable underfoot.

Amongst its wide selection of Shyrdaks, Felt stocks a dazzling selection of brilliant blues, reds, yellows and more, in a wide range of sizes and patterns, from runners to room-size rugs.

Every one of Felt’s Shrydaks tells a unique story; motifs are chosen to bestow blessings or describe the nomads’ life in the mountains. Each rug is a vibrant work of art, as practical and hardwearing as it is decorative.

WHITE WASH
DECEMBER 10TH 2015

Edward Bulmer explains the stories behind three of his newest whites…

White Lead: “In the past, white pigment for oil paints was derived from lead. The sheets of lead were stacked in a pit of dung and the resulting white deposit that formed after a month was taken off in flakes. Suspended in linseed oil it took on a slightly yellow/grey cast, creating the same universally useful hue we have mixed up.”

Pearl Colour: “The beautiful opalescent appearance of a pearl is hard to pin down as one colour, but in the 19th century the name was used to describe white pigmented with Prussian blue, black, ochre and even Indian red. Our colour takes a cue from all these pigments but uses them sparingly to create the pale radiance of the finest pearl.”

Clay: “Many old colour names refer to natural materials and of course these materials varied from place to place. Ours is a grey/yellow clay which makes a very adaptable shade and is a good hall colour, but is also sophisticated enough for a contemporary living room.”

TRENDING: CELADON
DECEMBER 8TH 2015

The Celestine from the London Basin Company is inspired by celadon, the beautiful pale green glaze popular throughout Asia.  This colour has been making its way into our interiors and now makes a splash in this gorgeous basin. Shaped like a flower in bloom, it features the delicate crackle glaze finish so often used in traditional celadon ware.

ENGLISH RECLAIMED
DECEMBER 2ND 2015

From Yorkstone and Purbeck to Blue Lias, England’s wonderful native stones have been used in historic buildings for centuries. Reclaimed and restored, they have a lustrous patina, created by the passage of time. This makes them amongst the most desirable of floors…

Lapicida’s Reclaimed Collection offers the most charismatic of traditional native stones.  They come with their own provenance and many are extremely rare. Lapicida’s services also extend far beyond the stone.  Reclaimed stone comes in irregular thicknesses: not ideal for today’s homes. But, Lapicida’s custom-cut service transforms random flags into regularly-dimensioned pieces without affecting their beauty. If required, stone can be hand-selected to achieve a specific spectrum of colour.

Shown here is a reclaimed 17th Century floor in
English Pennine sandstone. The flags are in random sizes, hand matched to achieve the client’s desired colour.
